Species of grass are usually not taken seriously as house plants. That is a shame, for if you look at Juncus effuses Spiralis, you will have to admit that it is one of the funniest plants you have ever seen. It will draw a lot of attention in your living room.
With its curly, twisted, spiralling blades it looks like somebody that has just come out of bed, with his hair still in a tangle. This self-willed little plant is nicknamed ‘corkscrew’, for obvious reasons. ‘Liebeslocken’ is another one of its names.
There are species of Juncus effuses that grow outside, some of which even in swamps and ponds. Don’t worry if you find that in the winter Spiralis’s blades become brown and fall out: it will wake up in the spring and return lush, florissant and healthy
